Overview: When a Third Party Sponsor Pays Tuition (For Graduate Students)
Some students may be sponsored by a third-party who assumes responsibility for paying the student's tuition and/or other fees. Stanford University will invoice outside organizations (sponsors) which require a separate invoice for the items the sponsor pays on the student bill. This process is called Third Party Contract (TPC) billing. If the sponsoring organization does not require an invoice, it is considered an outside award.

Third-Party Contract (TPC) Billing
If a sponsoring organization (a third party that is paying a student's tuition and/or other fees) requires an invoice to pay against, Student Financial Services administers the process.
Sponsors must complete a Third Party Contract Application Form for each academic year. The form must also be signed or acknowledged by the student. Upon receipt of the form, Student Financial Services will notify the student via email with instructions on how to provide their consent to release financial information.
Students who have questions may contact Student Financial Services located in the Maude Modular at 632 Serra Street, Room 160, or submit a HelpSU ticket.
Application Due Dates
Student Financial Services must receive the completed application and letter of support by the following dates:
| Term | Application Due Date |
|---|---|
| Fall | August 1 |
| Winter | October 1 |
| Spring | January 4 |
| Summer | May 1 |
Outside Awards
When a third-party sponsoring organization does not require an invoice, Stanford considers this to be an outside award. The University Financial Aid Office manages the process of applying these funds to the student's account.
